Early Care and Education Industry Committee

NY Times Article of interest - When Should a Child Start Kindergarten?
The Early Care and Education Industry Committee was convened by The WorkSource, a public/private partnership providing a comprehensive human resource service for businesses and residents of the 13-county Houston-Galveston Gulf Coast region. The WorkSource helps employers solve workforce-related business problems and area residents build careers, so that both can better compete in the changing worldwide economy. The WorkSource has a significant interest in the early care and education industry, as it is the largest single payer in the Gulf Coast region for early care and education and efforts to improve the quality and standards of care for individual providers.
The Early Care and Education industry's largest employers were selected to participate on the committee to work with The WorkSource to identify the industry's critical skills shortages and human resource needs. Members include representatives from Head Start, private and nationally franchised child care programs, a representative from a community action agency and the Development Corporation for Children. To support this work, The WorkSource has contracted with Collaborative for Children. For a complete list of committee members, click here.
The committee meets on a regular basis. In its initial meetings, the committee has worked to prioritize issues, set committee goals and determine measures of success for the committee's work. Examples of early care and education human resource issues the committee is considering include the following:
- INDUSTRY IMAGE
- WAGES & BENEFITS
- COMPETITION AMONG SECTORS
- FINDING & RETAINING STAFF
- MANAGEMENT TRAINING
- STAFF MORALE
- DEVELOPMENT OF A CAREER LADDER
